MDD
Staff now certified
in
Pet First Aid & CPR
We
all know the undeniable strength of the human-animal
bond. For many of us it is so strong that our
pets are considered a part of our family. Every
day at MDD we are entrusted with the care of our
clients four-legged “kids” and we
take this responsibility very seriously.
Although all of our staff has had various training
in first aid – we felt it was important
that supervisory positions became certified in
Pet First Aid and CPR. Statistics show that preventable
accidents are the leading cause of death among
companion animals. According to the American Animal
Hospital Association (AAHA), one out of four animals
could be saved if just one pet first aid technique
was applied.
The skills
we learned to become certified included:
-
How to find the
pet’s pulse, respiration, capillary refill
time & hydration
-
How to safely approach
a sick or injured animal
-
Rescue breathing
& CPR
-
Bandaging &
splinting techniques
-
What to do for:
bloat, burns, choking constipation, diarrhea,
drowning, electric shock, frostbit, heat stroke,
poisoning & seizures
-
How to handle snake
bites, bee stings, tick removal
-
How to administer
medications, clean wounds and bandage correctly
-
Which situations
require IMMEDIATE veterinary care
-
What to do in case
of a disaster
If an emergency happens,
the right skills can mean the difference between
relief and tragedy. We are pleased to announce
that the MDD supervisors are
now certified to administer this aid and can act
with confidence to save an animal’s life
if needed.
